Gratitude Journal – Day 153 – December 1, 2014

Making a difference….
one toy at a time, one song at a time, one hug at a time, one smile at a time, one thank you at a time, one I love you at a time. Making a difference begins with each one of us. One small gesture by one single person, is the pebble dropped into the ocean that when multiplied by many creates a wave of goodwill that can truly make a difference, even change a life.
The day was perfect in every way; warm weather, blue skies and multiple fly overs, except for you being here myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope. Like a well-oiled machine, we were ready one hour before show time, just like you taught us. We had our family meeting with you down by the lake, where you spent so many moments relaxing and reflecting on the good life we have. And today we poured into the spot you’re missing from, overflowing love, sealed with a prayer.
As our friends bring their toys one by one, I watch their joy as they add them to the ever growing toy display that rivals any store front window. I am touched by the care that has gone into picking that special gift for a local child they will never meet. And these events are what bring wonderful people together to enjoy the company of old friends and new, to laugh, to break bread, to enjoy the music so generously shared.
And as I talked with the young Marine, he told me a story. One of a young child who lost his father and can to this day, remember the Marine who gave him a special toy at Christmas. And it was that toy and the experience it represented, that changed his life forever as he made a decision to become a Marine himself.
Today I am filled with gratitude for family and friends, or as we prefer to say, Ohana as we combine forces to make a difference in the lives of others. As you go about your holiday preparations, take a moment to consider how you can positively impact the lives of others. Drop a pebble into the ocean…..
