Gratitude Journal – Day 187 – January 4, 2015

Two weeks…
(click here to read Facebook comments)
and a wake up call – vacation is officially over, back to work! While some may lament having to work, I am grateful to have a great job with a great company. myDarlin’ and my motto was and still is work hard, play hard – for the play is our reward for a job well done.

Two weeks to celebrate our Saviors birth, to visit Ohana, to go to boxing matches, to write, to stay up late and sleep in, to listen to and photograph live music, to just plain relax. Did I get everything done that I intended to? No, but guess what? It’s OK… seeing friends is far more important than taking the life size candy canes down from the front entry way. The candy canes will be there tomorrow, but we are not guaranteed our next breath.

Today, as I sat amongst a room of friends, old and new, he thanked everyone for coming out to help celebrate his 64th birthday. We all laughed, as he could legitimately sing ‘When I’m 64’ now. He held up a red, white & blue lei, clearly out of place amongst the décor, but strangely fitting nonetheless as he acknowledged myDarlin’. And a friend soulfully sang and played a song I haven’t heard in such a long time.

I used to think that love was just a fairy tale
Until that first hello, until that first smile
But if I had to do it all again, I wouldn't change a thing
'Cause this love is everlasting

Suddenly, life has new meaning to me
There's beauty up above
And things we never take notice of
You wake up and suddenly, you're in love

myDarlin’, you're everything I could want and more
One thousand words are not enough to say what I feel inside
Holding hands as we walk along the shore
Never felt like this before, now you're all I'm living for

Suddenly, life has new meaning to me
There's beauty up above
And things we never take notice of
You wake up and suddenly, you're in love

Each day I pray
This love affair would last forever

Suddenly, life has new meaning to me
There's beauty up above
And things we never take notice of
You wake up, suddenly, you're in love

There's beauty up above
Things we never take notice of
You wake up and suddenly, you're in love

Star Trek came to mind as I ‘teleported’ back to the day we met. I’ve always believed that there is that special someone for everyone, and often tell friends to just let go and wait for it to happen. And myDarlin’ was my fairy tale, my Prince Charming. As I listened intently, every word of this song rang true. If we take time to look up, we’ll see that there is beauty up above.

And as I left the gathering, it was pouring from the heavens so I pressed the button on my umbrella and whoop – it covered my head. And I chuckled a bit as I could hear myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope tell me that it’s only water. I posted a photo on Instagram, and as I was perusing the pages saw a post that asked, quite simply, ‘what are the three most precious things to you in life right now? Today, I am grateful for so much, and my three most precious things are: my relationship and trust in the Lord, my Ohana and being able to share this fishbowl we call life with you.
