Play it again….
Sam one of the patrons repeated several times as a friend sang a Sinatra set this evening. And I’m immediately taken back to a conversation with myDarlin' Robert Kenui Pope, whose favorite movie of all time was Casa Blanca. It is one of the most mis-quoted movie lines as Bogart actually said, ‘Play it again.’
And he sang ‘Fly me to the Moon’, which I’ve heard hundreds of times in my life. This time the words struck me in a totally different way as I imagined myDarlin’ singing this to our Lord.
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
Fill my heart with song
and let me sing forever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, I love you.
and let me sing forever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, I love you.
And tonight in conversation with her, a woman of God, she shared with me that upon watching myDarlin’s memorial service, they were amazed at my composure and my peace. ‘Dear Lord, please give Sheri strength and understanding’, he prayed that morning, and I am here to tell everyone within hearing or reading distance that our Lord heard and responded directly to his prayer. For I do know that our days in the book of life are numbered, and that the Lord called myDarlin’ home, where he is rejoicing with every moment and every breath. And in my times of sadness, which come unexpectedly at times, I think back to his prayer, I close my eyes and give thanks for the precious time we had together.
And our grandson asked his father, what his favorite memory of Tutu Chef was. After my son shared with him, he said, ‘my favorite memory is just being with him…..’ I am filled with gratitude that we will always have wonderful memories of just being with him, and that one day we will be with him again in paradise.
