Magic Carpet…..
Ride has been one of my all-time favorite songs since I was a little girl. ‘I like to dream, yes….’ and what little girl doesn’t dream of her Prince Charming? Even if it’s not in the traditional Disney character type, we all hope that we’ll meet that someone that will make us feel like we are the most special person in the world to them.
And so I would wish for a horse and Prince Charming with every birthday candle I blew out…Well, I got my horse(s) and am here to tell you that as much as I like them, they sure are a lot of work! But, then again…. Perhaps I relate them to a time in my life which wasn’t… well let’s just say the best time of my life. As I closed that chapter, I listened again to my song, ‘Why don’t you come with me little girl, on a magic carpet ride?...’ I closed my eyes and looked inside and then said, ‘OK, let’s go!’ trusting God with my journey.
When I open my eyes, I could hardly believe it, there he was…. ‘Can I play with you?’ he asked. Years and years of play time, disguised cleverly as everyday life passed by, as we laughed, blended our families, made friends, played music, broke bread with Ohana and documented it all in photos. As we talked about his retirement and our ten year plan, we also spoke of our bucket list.
And near the top of the list was ‘jumping out of a perfekly good plane’, commonly referred to as skydiving. NOTE: I didn’t miss spell check on the word ‘perfekly’ – that is how myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope pronounced it, right, wrong or otherwise. I can still remember him looking at me in disbelief as I said that I would be up for it. You see, I don’t care for roller coasters and have never done anything more daring than get on a horse. And so we had planned on doing that on our vacation to Hawaii that never came to be this past summer. Fantasy will set you free…..
As I listened to the bands last night, they played this song, but I only heard the first couple of notes, then closed my eyes and was transported back to Leilani’s Aloha Lounge with the original playing over the speakers, laser light and smoke machine going, and myDarlin’ playing along smiling at me with that big grin of his.

I opened my gift from our daughter at Christmas and there it was…. a gift of a magic, for we will be jumping out of a perfekly good plane really soon. I won’t close my eyes, but will look inside as l carry myDarlin’ and Leilani in my heart every day.
Today, I am filled with gratitude for myDarlin’, my Prince Charming coming into my life and taking me for a magic carpet ride. And even though we aren’t physically together, time and space will never us part.
