Let go….
Let God I often say, and am amazed at how it manifests itself in my life. I had planned on going to see a band play at another venue, and as I headed home after an appointment that evening I received a strong urging to alter my plans. My guardian angel sits on my shoulder and often leans over to whisper in my ear. (that makes an interesting cartoon image, doesn’t it?) And I followed his lead….
Familiar faces, new faces - so many faces with a heavy concentration on musicians, after all it was an open jam. Kisses, hugs, handshakes, a nod – acknowledging each other is a part of our routine, one that I remember so well every time myDarlin’ and I entered through these doors and so many others. Community, a village, personal connections; just a few of the essentials of life.
Volunteers Needed – I’m not sure what that will look like I said to others as I pasted the magazine clipping on myVision board just the week prior. Giving back is one of our core values at work, and the company does a great job at providing ways to do so on a personal, community and corporate level; but I felt that this was different from events and gestures I normally make. And as I was trying to ‘figure it out’, our Lord placed it directly at my feet and my heart.
The music began and I hurriedly prepared two cameras, one with a wide angle and one close up. She was capturing the players right up front, so I moved to the back to a different vantage point. Four players on stage, and realistically I should have been taking photos of each of them, but was immediately drawn in by the heavenly, soulful music that seemed to dance off of his strings into the air. I remember thinking to myself that this man whom I hadn’t seen before had a lifetime of experience behind each and every note he played, for it was effortless for him……
Experience; what lessons do we learn from it? I used to balk to hear my elders as they said, ‘I wish I could keep all of my experience and trade in my body for a younger one.’ What is that echo? Yes, it is you and me repeating the same sentiment. And how will you transform and learn from your experiences? As myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope and I talked that very first night for four hours, we found that our journey, our life experiences were parallel.
And we used that foundation of experience to move on to the next level as we had both grown. And so, the experience continues to grow even in the absence of myDarlin’ here on this big blue and green ball. He will always live in my heart and influences me daily to look at situations from every different angel, considering all of the possibilities of how my experiences can make a difference.
As this community wants to help a brother in music and his family, we work together with her own guardian angel to provide ways, big or small to help make it happen. And just as in our photography, we bring different gifts and experiences to the table. It takes a village, and we will soon call on you, giving you an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of his Ohana.
Today I am grateful for opportunities to give back as was given to me in my and my Ohana’s time of need. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 ESV
