The day the music…..
returned to Leilani’s Aloha Lounge. Every month since myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope left us; we have had the band over for lunch to ensure that we maintain close contact with those we built so much of our life around. And as I prepared the food, I imagined myDarlin’ in the kitchen making sure that everything was done 30 minutes before guests, or in this case, Ohana, arrived. Pork carnitas, chicken fajitas, fried rice, refried beans and various toppings placed carefully in dishes I purchased in Mexico in the 90’s.
A beautiful day much like one year ago today, we opened the doors to Margaritaville as we each found a chair to sit a spell. Conversation and laughter danced about as droplets of mist on the waves, tumbling over each other landing on the soft sandy beach. You know myDarlin’, we can never have enough chairs.
Having satisfied the growling of our stomachs, we headed down to Leilani’s - one of my favorite spaces between these four walls of home, for band practice. And the music filled the room and myheart, I closed my eyes, knowing that myDarlin’s spirit was with us.
And my Lord, I am grateful today for the music returning to Leilani’s, cherishing every note and every memory that each one elicits.
