Good Nite Homer…
and Mahalo for another great day of work here at the Big Orange. Whether at the office, a facility or a store – our associates are truly what make this wonderful company tick. When I put my application in over 28 years ago, I was ecstatic to receive a call to come in for an interview the following day, jumped for joy when it was offered to me. And thus began a journey that would change my life in ways I hadn’t even dreamed of.
When asked, most new associates will tell you that their feet are sore after their first full day on concrete floors, but believe me when I tell you that wasn’t the case with me. My face hurt! LOL! I know that you want to insert a joke right here. Well, the reason my ‘face hurt’ is because I couldn’t quit smiling. Talking to customers, helping them with their projects, ringing them out? Finally a job I loved! And today, just as my first day – I smile as I greet our associates, our customers and yes, Homer.
You see, Homer has been there throughout my career and has 34 years under his belt, and finds his way into our ads, t-shirts, merchandise, training and perhaps the most exciting of all – appearing in ‘person’ at meetings, workshops and public events. And whenever I have a chance to hang out with Homer, you better believe I take him up on it for there is much to learn from him.
I think back to the day when I met myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope and how excited he was to learn that I had a job….a GOOD job as he told his friends. So whether day one or day ten thousand plus, I am grateful to work for a wonderful company, to be a part of the Orange family who not only take care of our customers, but each other. And every night as I leave, I pause to say thank you and Good Nite Homer.
