Taking care of each other…
that’s what we do. As we prepare for a fund raiser for the Homer Fund, a fund designed for associates to take care of our own, I think back to a time not so long ago. A time when my own Mother was a cashier, and loved the company and her fellow associates as her very own family.
When the Hurricane Katrina hit in New Orleans, this cashier who lived paycheck to paycheck like so many others, donated the equivalent to one paycheck to the fund. And it is selflessness such as hers and so many others who make a difference in the lives of our fellow Orange Ohana. I admire the woman my Mother was and her selflessness in giving back and taking care of our associates.
If you are fortunate enough to be a part of the big Orange, we make it really easy to make a difference. And even if you are not, you can make a difference every day I the lives of your Ohana and total strangers. Pay it forward with a kind word, a kind deed or a donation small or large. Together we can make a difference in the world.
Today I am grateful for having had the experience and honor to be on both sides of the Homer Fund with myDarlin' Robert Kenui Pope, as well as participating in and heading up other events outside of work to help those in our community. And as we pay it forward, the rewards come back to us ten-fold, and so on and so on. I am reminded of my grandson’s words, ‘Making the world a better place’. Yes, that is our legacy.
