People get ready….

for the train’s a comin’. The year 1965, I was seven years old and the song played on the radio. Little did I know or understand the meaning at that age, but as the years progressed it made more and more sense….
A few days ago, she sent me a text with an opportunity to see the Impressions play Eddie’s Attic. Impressions…. vaguely familiar…google….. ah yes. Of course I want to go! There were four of us, and as we entered the room, we headed toward the front of the room. And here there were two very distinct points of view.
Those that prefer sit further back to have a vantage point of seeing everything and those that would like to be right up front and personal, not wanting to miss a thing. Me? I want to sit in the front row of life….
And as they took the stage, I was transported back I time hearing this and so many other of their songs on the radio.
People get ready, there's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner whom would hurt all mankind
Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there is no hiding place against the kingdoms throne
People get ready there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, just thank the Lord
Fifty years later, the words ring as true as they did the first time they sang this song and I feel privileged to be in the presence of these men of faith. I look over to a table on the other side of the stage, and feel the presence of myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope as we sat there a little over a year ago listening to friends play this very room.
Today I am filled with gratitude because ‘You don’t need no ticket, just thank the Lord.’ And I ask you to think about what you will do when the train pulls into the station and our Lord calls, ‘All aboard’
