And she wondered….
as she yawned and slowly opened her eyes to see his hat hanging near his portrait, what today will bring. She opens herself to a world of possibilities, throws her arms in the air as if on the roller coaster of life and trusts that the Lord will keep her grounded in her journey.
Coffee… she decides will help her to wake from this sleepy state, opens the cupboard is faced with her first choice of the day. Each one has a story and elicits a different memory. She wonders if she could ask her Darlin’ Robert Kenui Pope right now which cup he thinks is her favorite if he would know… Of course he would know that it is the melmac Waffle House mug she scored at a yard sale for 25 cents just a few years prior.
A sip and then it is time to put pen to paper, or is it fingers to the keyboard? Her fingers are positioned on the ‘home row’; where we know exactly where to find each letter in the keys of life. She closes her eyes, as she doesn’t need to look to write, she just needs to feel… And a jet passes overhead, the rumbling starts in the distance and grows louder and louder as it passes over her, then gradually fades into the distance as geese fly in formation to the lake behind Margaritaville, making their presence known to all as the breeze rustles through the trees. She thinks to herself that if this entry (and so many others before and yet to come) were subjected to an editor’s pen, it would be quite messy. Good thing that we write our own manuscript in life and that there is only one Editor we need to answer to. (My guess is that he doesn’t so much care about how we write, but how we live.)
And she wonders if those reading her entry will wonder if she is ever getting to the point, but that’s the point in and of itself. Today, even though she has a list of ‘things to do’, she is open to what will happen and is no longer afraid as she knows that he always has her back. You see, you don’t always have to ‘see’, but rather ‘feel’.
Today I am grateful for all that life has to offer and that no matter if it be a sunny day or grey and dreary, that he has got our back every step of the way.
