Gratitude Journal – Day 102 – October 10, 2014

Here’s your sign….
Seems myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope has been sending subtle signs to so many of us, and I began to wonder where’s my sign? That is until I sat down tonight to write my Gratitude Journal entry. I did it again myDarlin’! If you were here, we would be laughing about it, but alas you’re not so all I can do is to tell you that I am sorry and I love you.
Yesterday I went to the monthly Women in Focus meeting, and was quite excited that Ross Oscar Knight would be speaking. An amazing photographer and a transparent, authentic speaker, he shared his story and a book that he recently published. The book is titled ‘Him – in His Moment, Candid Stories from Grooms’. I was so moved that I bought a book for you myDarlin’ and had Ross sign it, In Memory of Him, Robert Kenui Pope.
Today, I received an email from JE asking a question about a program that I worked on back in 2010. I searched my email archives and found one about the same topic earlier this year asking about the history of the program. My co-workers commented on how great my memory is when I attached an email from 2010 addressing the questions they had. Not really, I replied, I just archive everything and it certainly didn’t help me remember our wedding anniversary last year.
Last fall, Nan & I were at lunch and she told me that she was sorry she missed wishing us Happy Anniversary. And I looked at her in disbelief that she remembered our wedding date and neither one of us did! Crazy huh? And that evening, before I said anything to you, I went to the refrigerator to check our wedding certificate (Yes it’s hanging on the door and yes, we both realized that’s a bit odd) and sure enough – she was right! We laughed and laughed that evening!
This evening I open the freezer to get ice for my glass of water – and there it is – still
on the refrigerator door eight years later…… our wedding certificate, and then I get it! You’ve been sending me signs myDarlin’ – our eighth wedding anniversary was last Tuesday, September 30th. We laughed about it last year didn’t we?
I looked back at my photos from last Tuesday, September 30th and see that it is of the Kona heart I held up against the setting sun in my office window. I can vividly remember you saying as you opened the case of hearts in early February that one day; these hearts will have a special meaning for someone. It will remind them of a moment; who they were with, where they were at and what they were doing and now I know that you were right myDarlin’.
Tonight I am grateful for the little, gentle signs that you sent to me to say Happy Anniversary even if I forgot it again. The book, the email, the wedding certificate on the frig, and yes – the Kona heart too. Happy Anniversary myDarlin’, I love you.
