Gratitude Journal – Day 94 – October 2, 2014

Unexpected….
acts of kindness. It is getting late, and as I was thinking about what to share with you this evening, this suddenly came back to me. It was a Monday evening when I pulled up to my favorite restaurant and heard music floating from the patio into the parking lot, enticing passers-by to stop in. The Aloha Open Mic in honor of myDarlin Robert Kenui Pope was in full swing, and after I hugged every friend in the room, I snapped a photo on my iPhone to post on Facebook. It was then that I saw this message on the Kona Facebook page.
Hi there. Not sure whose car it was, but I was behind someone with a Kona Music logo and the license plate tutupnk on Atlanta Rd earlier today. It looks like your back left tire is going flat, might want to check it out! Hopefully it's someone associated with this page and they can catch it before it causes a bad day.

Wow! What a truly thoughtful person I said to myself as I walked outside to check my tire. Sure enough, it was low. Thanks B! I stopped to put air in it on my way home that evening, still marveling at the generous nature of this person to take the time to try to find me, and to write that note.
Fast forward, a couple of days later and while I am driving on my way home, a car came quickly from behind me around the side, then cut back in. Must be in a hurry I thought to myself, and chuckled when we came to the light. The car was directly in front of me and hadn’t made any ground to speak of after all of that speeding up. I caught the guy’s eye in the mirror, and chuckled again. Before I knew what was happening, he got out of his car, began to walk toward me and pulled out a badge.
Whaaaat? I thought to myself and wondered what in the world was going on. As he approached, I rolled down my window ever so slightly, only to hear him say, “Ma’am, just wanted to let you know that your back left tire is almost flat.” A wave of relief rushed over me as I realized I wasn’t in danger, and then an equally forceful wave of embarrassment because of my chuckles only moments before.
And, at that moment I said a prayer to thank the Lord for sending kind people to warn me of impending danger. I am filled with gratitude as I reflect on how God uses strangers and Ohana to do the work of angels here on earth. I am truly blessed.
