Gratitude Journal – Day 303 – May 1, 2015

Throwback Friday?
I know it should be Thursday, but this one hit me and I want to share. As I read of my recollection of a day two years ago, I remember the hope and faith we all had in myDarlin’s full recovery. Hope and faith still fill my heart and soul, but have taken on a different meaning as I traverse the journey of life.
Today, I am filled with gratitude for memories of yesterday, the joy of today and the faith that our Lord will see us through all of the days yet to come.

Rehab, Tags, Boxes and Open Mic
It’s interesting when looking back over the day, to recount the seemingly unrelated activities that are strangely tied together. In this instance, the common thread is music. It is that universal language, that in any event, happy or sad, touches the soul.
We rise with the sun, me heading to The Home Depot and Robert off to Cardiac Rehab. He’s doing so well after just two weeks that they will be pushing his limits up by 20 lbs. Fast forward, and it’s time to get the tag for my car, so we go to the Tag Agency (not nearly as much fun as ‘popping tags’) only to find that we need another item from the dealer. The great news is that we only had to pay $60.00 and $20.00 each year thereafter. And…. I have my kewl TUTUPNK tag back! Whooo-hooo! We were so dreading it this morning, but Christine made it a pleasant experience.
I head back to the store for the rest of the day to sit in on an Orientation session (that we just revamped this year), while Robert was back at the ranch working on his project. I’ve posted little hints about his project this week, and now the reveal. Drum roll please…… It’s a BOX! Not just any box, but a very large box on casters that will be the new home for mic stands, cables, etc. It’s obvious from Robert’s big smile, that this accomplishment is good for his healing process.
Wow…. We sure are hungry after all of this, so off to NY Pizza Exchange to catch The Woodys hosting the Open Mic for Kona. Steve and Lesli have been amazing, hosting 5 open mics and one of Kona’s gigs for them. Thank you so much for your kindness and friendship!
I look over the room full of musicians, and it warms my heart to know that we are one Ohana. Music really is that common thread that brings us together. Bronne and Alma of He Sang She Sang sang ‘Across the Universe’ which is also one of our favorite movies. So many other familiar songs sung by our friends new and old….We met Jeff Marier, who sang a couple of originals that are very well written. Turns out he’s also a comedian. “Why did the monkey fall out of the tree? He was dead…” Looks silly on paper, but I promise you it was hilarious! We say our goodbyes for the evening, and head back home.
I download pix while Robert takes his meds and blood pressure. All is well in the world of the Popes. We have each other, we have our family, and we have you. We are Ohana and will face tomorrow together, giving thanks for all that God has provided. Hope, love, comfort, the promise that the sun will rise, rain will fall and flowers will bloom. Thanks for standing strong with Robert Kenui Pope. Your prayers and encouragement are appreciated more than you will ever know!
