Gratitude Journal – Day 306 – May 4, 2105

Cinco de Mayo….
a day of celebration, and yet a day of remembrance of one of the most wonderful women in my life. Tomorrow will be nine years since my Mother left us to be with our Lord.
And I found this entry from a blog that I kept many years ago….
October is….
Cashier Appreciation Month!!!
and it just so happens that I know one of the best there is in the home improvement industry!
My Mom, ten year veteran of said warehouse, can help you get in and out FAST! Need some advice on what tool to use, or what the latest gadget is? Come on over and see Joan. And while she is out to take your money (after all that IS what her job is) she is very accurate! And talk about friendly, whew - she has customers who will wait in line just to have Joan check them out. When Joan Thanks you for shopping at her establishment, you know it is genuine.
Cashiers thank us every day for shopping at their store, let's take an opportunity this October to say, "Thanks for all you do!"
Thanks Mom!!!

I miss our calls on my drive home from work, and still keep her number in my contacts list. And our conversations ranged from her trips to Catherine’s to buy the latest fashion, to her co-workers who she ‘adopted’ as her own children, to family ‘stories’ to stories of characters in the latest novel she was reading told so realistic I wondered ‘who this family member was…
And I can’t help but think about how proud my Mother was of us, her grandchildren and first great grandchild, and how anxious she was for the arrival of more great grandchildren that very year she left us. She watched myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope prepare a dinner of salmon, asparagus and mashed potatoes in our first apartment and was impressed beyond belief that the man she hoped would be her son-in-law was a chef.
Today I am filled with gratitude for my Mother, and her genuine and simple approach to life and praise God that she is singing and flying with the angels. Until we see each other again… I love you Mom.
