All too often we take for granted the smallest details of
our everyday life such as quirky mannerisms or sayings, and even the sound of a
voice. Recordings of myDarlin' Robert
Kenui Pope's voice brings floods of memories of the emotions it evoked such
as love, happiness and laughter. We used to joke around saying that God likes
technology, and used it not only as a means for our life’s journey to cross,
but also to bring us to this very place in our lives. I am comforted by a three
second video of myDarlin’ Robert smiling and saying, “Good Morning Baby, I love
you”, a video of him singing ‘Follow Me’, a song that he learned for Kona’s
first gig and many others.
As I was going through my iPhone looking for videos, I came
across the voice memo app and a call that we made to his Mother last March on
her 96th birthday. Love, caring and laughter guided the conversation between
the two, sprinkled with anticipation as he told her of our upcoming visit in
July. It had been far too long since we
last saw his Mother in the spring of 2007, and the video of their reunion in
July of 2013 is priceless. We had the same conversation that elicited the same
excitement and anticipation this year on FaceTime for her 97th birthday, and
would also have been going in July of this year to Kona, Hawaii to see Mom, his
sister Kawehi and family.
I am filled with Gratitude to our dear Lord for gracing me
with the most wonderful relationship a woman could ever ask for, the technology
that brought us together, and that will for all time allow me to hear the
sweetest voice on earth, myDarlin’ Robert.
