Gratitude Journal – Day 32 – August 1, 2014

In Plain Sight…..

It was one month ago today that one of my Facebook friends posted a daily Gratitude Journal challenge for the duration of one month. It had been eight days since myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope went home, and the memories were flooding my mind as if a faucet had been left on all the way and the sink was over flowing. I jotted down notes on paper, my iPhone, on FB in hopes of sharing them with you, our Ohana, to keep his memory alive and his life relevant. One month has passed, and I have risen to the challenge of writing and sharing an entry a day. I will continue as it has helped me immensely to share my memories of life with myDarlin’ with you, and I pray that it has also helped you to realize that we are all living an ordinary life with extraordinary possibilities if we will take the time to look……

How many of you find it challenging to keep up with iPhone charging cables and adapters? With as many devices as we have, and as many extra cables/adapters that I have purchased from eBay (10 at a time), I still found myself ‘painting’ mine with gold nail polish to distinguish between his and hers. When the kids moved out, we used to joke with each other saying that we couldn’t blame it on them anymore when we couldn’t find one. “It’s just you and me myDarlin’.” And now, it’s just me.
As I was looking for my Mophie (iPhone battery pack) cable, I chuckled to myself when I couldn’t find it and said out loud, “What did you do with my cable myDarlin’?” No answer, no cable. I then turned my attention to finding the remote to my Nikon which I had placed in my purse on Sunday after taking a group photo for my son Chris’s birthday. Nowhere to be found. Ugh! I guess I could buy another one, they’re not that expensive. I picked up my purse to head out the door, and it fell to the floor. The remote I had been searching for…… ‘You got me myDarlin’!’

One of my favorite authors is Brian Andreas, who writes books titled ‘Story People’. These books contain short thoughts that require one to slow down and ponder the meaning of what they just read. The photo below from last years’ calendar is a great example:

Sometimes the only thing to do is to start looking at everything again until you forget what you’re supposed to see & actually see what’s there. I got to work, reached in my purse & there it was. The charging cable was in there all the time, in plain sight. I just hadn’t looked close enough. Today I am filled with Gratitude for what is in plain sight when we slow down to look closer and deeper. God is always in plain sight if we’ll just #KeepLookingUp
