Gratitude Journal – Day 34 – August 3, 2014

I dare you

…. to pursue your dreams. The question is, do you know what your dream is? What is your passion? What talent has God blessed you with? What are you doing to make it happen?

Today has been one of reflection for me as I started the day reading a page in the Praying Woman Inspiration Calendar that my friend Ann gave to me a couple of weeks ago.

Lord, I pray that You would show me clearly what the gifts and talents are that You have placed in me. Lead me in the way I should go as I grow in them. Enable me to use them according to Your will and for Your glory.

I think of myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope and how he used his talents and kind spirit to touch others every day. His talent wasn’t just rooted in music, but also in being a coach and a mentor to so many, including his children. Coaching to build life skills and instill values, so that as they approached the playing field of life – they were well equipped to play the game. We spoke often of our children’s talents, as well as encouraged each other to pursue ours. His musical also talents allowed him to touch so many, both in the music and fan communities. He was in the midst of pursuing his dream of playing music full-time, when God called him to fill the bass player spot in God’s House Band.

I sat at the dinner table with my friends a couple of nights ago, to feast on tortellini with pesto, garlic bread and a desert of black cherry & dark chocolate ice cream, all prepared by their daughter Liv. Liv is an extremely talented young woman with an insightful, old soul coupled with a fresh outlook on life and all of its’ possibilities. When I asked if she was going to get a job to earn spending money, she replied that she owns her own company, Type Eight. Now that’s a great example of going after your dreams right out of the gate. Liv is taking her artistic passion and is creating/selling hand painted/drawn Typography originals. I am proud to say that I am one of her first customers, buying the wonderful piece displayed here.

As I reflect on the past 11 years with myDarlin’, I am filled with Gratitude as I think about blessed we are that God showed us what our gifts are and encouraged us to pursue our dreams. I am confident that God will continue to show me the way as I put my trust in Him.
