Gratitude Journal – Day 39 – August 8, 2014

Life’s storms….

As Hurricane Iselle bears down on our beloved Ohana in Hawaii, I pray to our Lord to shower them with his love and protection.

They say that hind sight is 20-20, and I believe that to be true. I’ve shared before how Robert Kenui Pope's and my life traveled a parallel path in what now seems like a world away and a lifetime ago. From our younger days which were rooted in music, to marrying and having a family at a young age, divorcing, going through a troubled relationship and finally breaking away to get a new start.  There were so many great times, and others not so much. And when the winds of life’s storm settled down, we both found ourselves in Atlanta.

It was in Atlanta, that the sun began to peek around the corner at us and we basked in the glorious rays of finding our Soulmate.  Life still presented its’ hurdles, but because of our past life experiences and faith in our Lord, we were able to meet those hurdles, find the blessings in each of them and grow stronger because of them. It is life’s storms that make us who we are, and what really matters is how we go on after the storm.

Our Ohana has just experienced a major storm in our lives as Robert went on to join in God’s House Band this past June. It is difficult to comprehend that myDarlin’ no longer walks with us physically, that his big hands will no longer be wrapped around the neck of his favorite basses, that he’ll no longer give us a big bear hug or hold my hand, but just like the morning after a storm – three little birds perch on our doorstep.

Today I am grateful for the gift God gave me in finding my Soulmate, and giving me the strength and understanding to weather the storms previous and present.
