Aloha.....
Shirts, that
is….. You went on a vacation long ago, and as a souvenier purchased a red &
white or blue & white cotton shirt from Hilo Hattie’s, then grew tired of
it and donated it and your high waisted jeans to the local thrift shop. Just so
you know, those are not the Aloha shirts I have been on the hunt for myDarlin’
Robert.
Aloha shirts,
or as Robert would call them, silkies have been the ever constant focus of my
junkin’ escapades. You see, I have a confession to make. I love junkin’ for
silkies, tie dye, ugly Christmas sweaters, chairs, vintage dish &
glassware. When I think of a person that
has a signature style, Robert is the very first one that comes to mind with his
Aloha shirt, shorts and slippas. There is one shirt in particular that has been
a favorite of his for years now, and I just love seeing the photos of him in
it. Think about it, you know which one is your favorite shirt, when it is the first
one that you wear once the laundry is done for the week. Admit it, we all have
one.
And so now
there is a closet full of Aloha shirts and tie dye t-shirts missing Robert’s
smile and kindness as much as we all do. The Island Fever, Tommy Bahama, Howie,
Paradise Found, Tiki Classic, Original Island Sport, Caribbean Joe and more
will soon find a new home……. No, they will not be making the trip to our local
thrift shop, but rather to a dear friend home who will be creating blankets of
love for our immediate Ohana.
I can still
hear, “Thank you Baby….” as I would show him my ‘day’s treasures’ and am filled
with gratitude knowing that I am still wrapped in myDarlin’s blanket of love
and that of our Savior. Aloha myDarlin’. I love you!
