Gratitude Journal – Day 33 – August 2, 2014

On being a roadie…..

What will my Gratitude topic be tonight? It normally just comes to me mid-day, and I make a couple of notes as ideas magically appear as if they were Lucky Charms. (random) Today, nothing….. Work was great today as we started off with The Home Depot Cheer at our All Hands Meeting, which must be quite the spectacle for anyone who has never experienced it. Give me an ‘H’ ‘O’ ‘M’…..We GSD (got stuff done!) today, then it was time to head out to face the weekend head on. First Friday Art Walk at the Marietta Square with DIL Angela, visiting Susie of Limelight Marietta (my all time favorite gift shoppe), watching fire dancers perform, ending with eating sushi. On to Ronnie John’s Sunset Grille to hear the Big Biscuit Band and then it hit me as I watched them finish out the evening ….. I haven’t loaded out since June 20th.

Those not in the music community may not realize what goes into a performance at a venue, and what role roadie(s) play. From arriving at least one hour or more before the band is scheduled to play, to loading in, setting up, the actual show, then tearing down and loading out. From day one, I have been myDarlin’s roadie as music is a part of both of our lives. I wanted to always spend time with him not only because I love him, but because we are a team and I always wanted to do my part to lighten his load.

Whenever possible, I would ride with myDarlin’,Robert Robert Kenui Pope to gigs, which allowed us to catch up on our day, talk about the upcoming performance and more importantly how he wanted me to help. My question is/was always, “What can I do for you?” My job recently was to always set up the Kona flags; hammering the stakes in the ground, sliding the flag over the three piece pole, then placing the flags on the stake. The flags, gently waving in the breeze were a way of telling everyone that Kona is HERE tonight. Funny how many times it actually worked. (plus it was a great photo op) What can I do for you? I asked….

After a great night, I’m sure it looked like we just played the movie backwards…. and then? We would go to Waffle House as a group and laugh the night (or early mornig) away as we talked about how the gig went and caught up with each other.
Today, I am filled with Gratitude for each and every time I had the opportunity to be myDarlin’s roadie, for it was much more than loading in, setting up, tearing down and loading out. It was about a teamwork, Ohana and love….our last Waffle House visit was June 20th, the same day as the last time I help to load out.

Life is a song and Love is the music
