Gratitude Journal – Day 31 – July 31, 2014

Here’s your sign….

When you hear this phrase, my guess is that you may automatically think of a popular comedian. Today was a day filled with signs beginning with my drive into work today. I was behind a fuel truck with the logo ‘Spirit Express’ (Sign#1), and I thought it fitting that I would be following it. Is the Holy Spirit passing a message on to me from myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope telling me to #JustFollow and #KeepLookingUp?

Arriving at work this morning, I rushed to find the QR code reader on my iPhone as I entered the elevator so I could scan the code on the Women’s Link poster (Sign#2, literally) to register for the ‘Building a Life Strategy’ Forum this evening. I sure hope I’m not too late, to build my Life Strategy or for the refreshments and door prizes!

A dear friend at work has invited me many times to attend a weekly bible study group, and something seems to come up each time I plan on attending. Today, my calendar was completely clear during that time (Sign#3), so I brought my lunch, a notebook and my iPhone loaded with the Bible Gateway app to the meeting room.

As Allen arrived, he explained that they had just finished up a series and were preparing to embark on a brand new series. Great timing I thought to myself, I’ll get in on the beginning of this one. And then, he asked me to share Robert’s & my story with the small group. I found myself recounting finding my Soulmate on the T-Mobile Love Game, to being laid off in 2006 and us deciding that day not to let it end poorly by planning to get married, to many years of building our wonderful life together, to his heart attack & recovery in 2013, to the Sunday service and the prayers we prayed for each other on the day myDarlin’ left us, concluding with the many lives that have been changed because of his life. I never grown tired of sharing the blessings in Robert’s and my life with others, as it helps them to relate and open up about past or current experiences, and together we can fill our glass half full.

Work is busy today, just the way that I like it. Getting stuff done and strategizing about upcoming projects really makes the time fly. Yabba-dabba-do! It’s 5:30 and time to go Build a Life Strategy. Refreshments – check! Raffle ticket – check! Make friends with the lady sitting next to me – check! Take notes like crazy – check! Laugh – check! Win prize – fail! LOL! The speaker, Sandra began by thanking us for spending our evening with a little grey haired old lady who would share things that she wished she would have known as she traveled on her life’s journey. She told us that she had finally met her Soulmate on marriage #3 (me too!) and dreamed of sitting on the front porch rocker with him in their retirement. The ironic thing is that has been something I have thought about all of my life, but could never quite see it in my future. I had passed it off thinking it was because we don’t have a front porch, but now know that God had different plans for me all along. Sandra fell into a funk when her Soulmate passed away, and through her experiences and choices climbed out, then decided to share her story with others to help them on their journey. I thought to myself that her and my paths are so similar, except that my faith has kept me from falling in the depths of said funk.

I want to share an important concept that Sandra spoke of this evening with you, as it really resonated with me. Your personality does not dictate your destiny, but your character does.

Personality + (Experiences & Reflection & Choices) = Character

Remember that YOU make the choices in YOUR life. Write the story you want to live.

Today I am grateful that God sent three little birds (signs) throughout the day to tell me that ‘every little thing’s gonna be alright’.
