The mystery of the missing keys…
For all of you that know myDarlin’ Robert, you know that
Tacoma is one of his prized possessions. One day in 2005, Robert’s vehicle
decided to leave him stranded, so we knew it was time for him to get a new one.
He really wanted a truck, and researched all of the makes and models until he
found the perfect one. I normally dread signing a contract with ongoing
payments, but Robert’s excitement made me totally forget that feeling.
This vehicle was more than just a truck, in fact when
referencing it, Tacoma is the name. Tacoma was babied and pampered, got red,
white and blue bows on the 4th of July, Saints flags during football
season and is adorned with decals of Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii and Tony
Stewart along with a honu (turtle) handing from the rear view mirror. Tacoma
carried the most precious cargo, Robert and our Ohana, as well as music
equipment, junkin’ treasures and pulled the trailer as we adventured out to gigs.
When people asked Robert what year Tacoma is, he was so
proud when they said that Tacoma didn’t look that old. When myDarlin’ Robert left this earthly
world, we were unable to locate his keys to Tacoma. We searched and searched, and
I even prayed that God would let Robert send a sign during one of his breaks
from playing in God’s House Band, but nada.
Keys are highly overrated anyway right?
I could hear Pastor Ron saying that “Coincidence is God
being anonymous” as Emanuel from South Care called me today to ask me what kind
of car Robert drove. The keys to Tacoma and three guitar picks came out in the
wash when they laundered the clothes he wore that Sunday, however his pockets
had been checked previously and they were not found.
As I look out the front door and to the sky, I say a prayer
of gratitude for the journey that we traveled myDarlin’ Robert, and will try to
care for our Ohana and Tacoma like you did.
