Gratitude Journal – Day 15 – July 15, 2014

Waiting in the parking deck...

The lunch date was set over a month ago, with a sweet friend whom I cherish. I think about what our conversation would have been centered around if myDarlin’ was still here with us, then realized that it would have been about the same wonderful man, my soul mate Robert.

“Are we still on for lunch today?” she sent over in a message, to which I replied, “of course!” She told me to meet her at C4 parking deck, and so I waited for her there. I thought of the many times that Robert would pick me up from work, leaving my car for the evening or the weekend, so that I could ‘ride with him’ and Tacoma. My eyes scanned the parking deck, searching for myDarlin’ and I was transported back to 2011 waiting for Robert to pick me up for our trip to Savannah.

Beatles on the stereo, myDarlin’ at the wheel and me reading excerpts to him from the book, ‘Still Mostly True’ by Brian Andreas. ‘most people don’t know there are angels whose only job is to make sure you don’t get too comfortable & fall asleep & miss your life’ was one of my favorites, and I can honestly say that we didn’t fall asleep.  Inspired by Brian, I took pen to paper, or as it may be, sharpie to the back of an old printed email and wrote….

He picked her up from work for a quick get away…
They drove on into the sunset with songs of the Beatles filling the air,
and dreams of sand between their toes…..

Before you know it, my friend was pulling up with a big smile on her beautiful face. I jumped in and we headed around the corner for a wonderful lunch together. We laughed a little, we cried a little, and shared stories of those who have left us to go hang out with Jesus in heaven. After we were done, she handed me a simple lime green gift bag, with fushia tissue carefully wrapped around a daily devotional calendar. I opened it, and this is what the page said….
God has great plans for you. He has important things He wants you to do.
And He is preparing you for your destiny right now.
Thank you sweet friend….. I am grateful for Ohana and little signs from God that myDarlin’ is safely in His arms.  I and our entire Ohana have been given the most precious gift of all, the love and memory of the great man who truly walked the walk.
