Hangers….
There never seems to be enough of them, does there? Sometimes I think that they are like socks, disappearing in the dryer… but wait that’s a ludicrous thought. myDarlin’ Robert Kenui Pope used to take extra shirts for evening gigs and invariably I would find many hangers in the back seat of Tacoma.
This afternoon I began doing what I have been putting off, and I have to tell you that it is difficult and joyous all at the same time. The pile of empty hangers grew on my bed as I went through the closet and folded myDarlin’s clothes to take to Goodwill and gathered a pile of shirts with special meaning to be used in memory quilts for each of the kids; all the while knowing that I would never wash any of them again or search for enough hangers as I took them out of the dryer.
There’s the tie dye Elvis shirt, the silky Aloha shirt with the vintage car and bathing beauty, Bass players are nothing but treble, Spam and the list goes on and on. Each one has a story behind it and brings a smile to my soul when I recall it. The most recent t-shirt came in the mail the week after myDarlin’ left us. He had ordered it online and was anxiously awaiting its’ arrival. ‘I Play Bass Guitar, What’s Your Super Power?’
Today, as I reflect on the blessings in my life I count finding myDarlin’ and having the gift of 11 wonderful years with him as the most special blessing that God could ever bestow upon me. Pastor Denise said that ‘Tears are prayers without words’ and today, I prayed……
